Beck Depression Scale

Definition of Depression:
A state of low mood that disrupts the course of an individual’s daily life. It affects the individual’s overall functioning, and in its most severe cases, depression may lead an individual to contemplate ending their life.

About the Scale:
This scale was translated into Arabic by Dr. Eid Al-Ibrahim. It provides clinicians with a reliable and quick tool to screen for the severity of depressive symptoms. The scale consists of 12 items, each with four graded responses. It measures the depth of symptoms associated with depression and uses a scoring system from 0 to 3 to indicate the severity of each symptom.

In this scale there are twenty-one groups of statements. Please read each group separately. You will find that every four statements deal with a specific topic. Choose the one statement that you feel best describes your condition and feelings during this week, then select the number of that statement (0, 1, 2, or 3).
Make sure you read all the statements in each group carefully before choosing one, and make sure you have answered every group.
